Wolf
Abandoned Homes (1972)
In the true legendary travels and adventures of the Wolf (Me) I was neither the Noble Savage nor the hunted child-killer.
Men invented tales about me for the sake of their sanity.
I was usually on the run, it's true, from nothing (As it happens) But there was nothing else to do; I created running.
The only majesty is the majesty of the crystal air. In my Race to nowhere I dazzled the rotting earth (I imagine),
Kept the fires of man burning harshly through the nights (Without fail). I am a myth, which means a lie; but the best lie there is.
There were never any great lakes or forests of blue ice, But I did design a few perfect snowflakes for God in my time.
