Expecting To Leave

How We Died (1970)

Today you and I came apart. All the crap, Talk of returning to Ireland As if I had some claim— It all caught up with me After you left.

It wasn't that I had promised you The keeping of a plan—we Struck no bargains. You moved And that shot my talking it out.

How long I sat still I don't know, But it's over. The last confession— You fancied several deaths.

Now I have used one up To straighten my bed And clear the way For something, anything— Another person's life.

We've run out of situations to face. I'm learning how to do without you. Listen, please, we were no good.

I've already rolled over Into another world.

Are you gone?
